Original Medicare Part A and B leave many gaps in Coverage. Part A is hospital Insurance and Part B is medical Insurance.

A Medicare Supplement Insurance Policy helps supplement Original Medicare and is sold by private Insurance Companies.

A Medicare Supplement policy help pays some of the remaining health cost that is not covered by Original Medicare such as services and supplies, like deductibles, copayments and coinsurance.

If you have original Medicare and a Medigap Policy, Medicare will pay its share of Medicare Approved amounts for covered healthcare costs.  Then your Medigap policy pays its share.
